Helping Victims of Spousal Abuse and Domestic Violence Both Men and Women
Violence, aggression (overt and covert), intimidation and threatening and bullying behaviours are common to couples, families, work places and society as a whole. From childhood through to adulthood, an individual may suffer Physical, Emotional and Sexual abuse, bullying and or harassment. These types of experiences invariably have long term effects on people's lives and damage their ability to formulate healthy relationships.
TonicTalk is dedicated to resolving Anger, abuse and violence issues. We help all parties no matter if they are male or female, victim or victimiser. Statistics show beyond doubt that there is gender symmetry between Anger-Sufferers, perpetrators and victims. That is to say that both men and women perform such behaviours and are victims of such behaviours and that both are in need of help.
If you have or are suffering at the hands of an abuser or anger-sufferer, no matter if you are a man or a woman, there is no shame in your pain, fear and suffering. We are here to help you. Our Couple Counsellors, Counsellors and Anger Management specialists are dedicated and experienced in working sensitively to help people rebuild healthy lives and formulate new ways of being in relationships.
If you are an Anger-Sufferer, abuser, bully, or if you are controlling or manipulative, no matter your gender, please take advantage of one of our Anger Management programs. We are here to help you break the cycle.
Marriage & Couple Counselling Specialists
More than 50% of all marriages and long term committed relationships fail. According to the office of national statistics, in 2017, 101,669 opposite-sex marriages ended in divorce. Furthermore, the divorce rate for same sex marriages has increased significantly with the divorce rate for lesbian couples tripling from 2016 to 2017. However, these figures do not take into account the failure rate of long-term unmarried couples or couples with children. Nor do they take into account older generations habitually staying together. If the figures were adjusted to only include modern generations and all long-term relationships and couples with children regardless of marriage, the likely outcome would be that over 80% of all significant relationships needlessly fail. Most relationships are either neglected to death or fail because of a lack of communication and relational skills or mental health issues. Considering the long term relational, emotional and financial effects, it therefore seems reasonable to resolve issues rather than the alternative. Our counsellors and relationship specialists specialise in helping people improve all forms of relationships including:
• Couples, Marriages & Civil Partnerships
• Parent and Child, Siblings, & Inter-family
TonicTalk can help you:
• Resolve conflicts and Misunderstandings
• Overcome and avoid bitterness and resentment
• Understand and accept each other
• Improve your Communication skills
• Voice needs and goals and achieve them
• Improve intimacy, care and Love
• Minimise all forms of aggression
Mediation & Divorce
TonicTalk Counsellors can assist you when relationships and marriages fail. We can help keep costs to a minimum and reduce the psychological damage done to children. We help couples come to terms with the changes brought on by separation and divorce and empower and encourage them not to punish or act out of frustration, anger or spite but instead to work together for a healthy and amicable outcome.
Relationship MOT &
Even great relationships have their issues. People service their cars and boilers as a precaution. Why not invest in your relationship to ensure small issues do not become critical and also to improve and develop?
Relationship & Interpersonal Skills
Building healthy relationships is not as easy or as simple as people hope. It takes time, effort and a substantial amount of skill to build a healthy relationship that will stand the test of time.
At TonicTalk we believe that it is important to be open, honest and transparent in all that we do and to provide sufficient information concerning counselling and psychotherapy and our counsellors [and psychotherapists] to enable clients to make informed decisions. With this in mind, we provide the information below concerning each of our therapists to help you with your choice. Please understand that it is difficult to write about oneself without it sounding arrogant or clichéd.
“An analyst [counsellor or psychotherapist] can help his patient just so far as he himself has gone and not a step farther. …. with patients who got ‘stuck’ with their previous analysts and this always happened at the point where the analyst could make no further progress with himself.”
‘The Realities of Practical Psychotherapy’, paragraph 545. 1937
Carl G Jung (founder of analytical psychology).
Also, as above, we strongly believe that counsellor and psychotherapist personal development are key to client work and that it must be ongoing. ‘How can a therapist help others if he cannot help herself’? All our counsellors, like their clients, have attended therapy and are on personal journeys that require them to develop the courage, compassion and honesty to face themselves; their own actions, thoughts, feelings, mistakes and shortcomings. Therefore, they are all able to appreciate and help with the difficulties of therapy and the fears and frustrations that we must all face to grow and move forward.
“The greatest and most important problems of life are all fundamentally insoluble. They can never be solved but only outgrown.”
Carl G Jung.
TonicTalk offers its clients the best possible opportunity to achieve long term and sustainable results through personal growth and change. As such all our counselling and psychotherapy client work is based on a firm foundation of tried and tested Psychotherapeutic theory and practice and delivered within the context of developmental and healthy professional client-counsellor relationships. While we may occasionally use a ‘tool’ like CBT, they are offered within the wider context of a psychotherapeutic relationship and not the mainstay of the work.
It takes a minimum of 3 years of study, training and personal development to become a counsellor or psychotherapist while it only takes weeks to become a CBT, Hypnotherapy, NLP, or REBT specialist and requires no personal or relational development. Therefore, we do not believe that such ‘therapists’ are sufficiently well trained or personally developed to appropriately support clients. Also, since studies show that a healthy psychotherapeutic relationship is key to helping clients and these types of cognitive and behavioural therapies do not insist on such; we therefore question their effectiveness as ‘stand alone’ therapies.

About TonicTalk Counselling and Psychotherapy
Established in 2007, TonicTalk is a privately run and client funded, full-time professional Counselling and Psychotherapy service. Originally based in the three counties area of Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire we have recently expanded into Canterbury. Our goal is to provide premium quality counselling services at affordable rates allowing access to the majority of people.
As a private counselling and psychotherapy service, TonicTalk is completely accountable to you, the paying public. Unlike funded services including the NHS and charities who, regardless of their success or the quality of their services, have an almost endless stream of clients and little to no accountability or viable quality control. TonicTalk would not have enjoyed the success it has or gained a reputation for excellence and quality without being able to meet the high expectations of our discerning client base. Also, we recognise that the ongoing success of TonicTalk is completely dependant on the continued provision of high quality counselling and psychotherapy services including individual, couple's and family counselling; coaching and mentoring and Anger Management.
TonicTalk is therefore dedicated to its clients and the provision of high quality counselling services. As a professional Full-Time Private Practice that only employs full-time professional counsellors and psychotherapists, TonicTalk is at the pinnacle of service provision and accountability within the Counselling and Psychotherapy profession. TonicTalk has a vested interest in quality and accountability and is here to help you achieve the happiness and peace of mind that you desire for yourself and your loved ones.Top of Page
