As it is with all professions, the quality of the service is dependant on the individual practitioner providing the service and therefore ‘not all Psychotherapists and Counsellors are the same’. Some Counsellors and Psychotherapists are well trained, skilful, dedicated and diligent professionals who take great care to provide high quality Counselling, Psychotherapy and other Psychotherapeutic services, while many others do not.
TonicTalk Counselling and Psychotherapy is unique because we guarantee that all our Therapists are not only fully qualified, experienced and indemnified, as you might expect; but also, ensure that their practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy is of the highest standard.
“An analyst can help his patient just so far as he himself has gone and not a step farther. …. with patients who got ‘stuck’ with their previous analysts and this always happened at the point where the analyst could make no further progress with himself.”
‘The Realities of Practical Psychotherapy’, paragraph 545. 1937
Carl G Jung (founder of analytical psychology).
A commitment to significant and ongoing Personal Development ensures that a Therapist is psychologically fit and healthy and in the best possible position to provide for their client’s needs and without it, a therapist is destined to relive their own issues with their client’s sessions and become ‘stuck’. We therefore insist that all our therapists are deeply committed to a high level of Personal Development to ensure that they are fit and capable of providing the highest levels of services and care to our clients.
‘Good Therapists are hard to find’ and are without doubt, worth travelling for. Our catchment areas are Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire and include the towns and villages in and around Milton Keynes, Northampton, Bedford, Newport Pagnell, Olney, Wellingborough, Kettering, Market Harborough, Rushden, Stony Stratford, and Corby. Anxiety is a common to complex emotional, psychological and behavioural issue that can include the extremes of Panic Attacks, Phobias, OCD and GAD. Despite being ineffectual and having side-effects, G.P.s offer Anti-Anxiety medication which can only manage symptoms and will not resolve the underlying causes. Counselling and Psychotherapy offers one of the few viable long term sustainable solutions and our counsellors and Psychotherapists have great success in assisting individuals to overcome Anxiety, Panic Attacks, OCD and GAD.
There are many forms of depression, both long-term and short-term, and often these are treated with long term antidepressants which only manage symptomology without the prospect of a real sustainable solution. Talking therapies like Counselling and Psychotherapy can bring long term sustainable relief and we have an excellent reputation for providing such help.
Considering the importance of psychological health and the impact that personal issues and concerns can have on an individual’s life and wellbeing; we feel that it is important for clients to find accessible professional and effective Counselling and Psychotherapy services. To this end we have two venues that can be accessed conveniently in which such services can be found.

Intense Psychotherapeutic Anger Management is an extremely cost effective way of making sustainable and long term changes to how you live your life and relate to others. The cost of such therapy when weighed against losing one's job, a criminal record for common assault, failure of a relationship or divorce, is a small price to pay. Anger and aggression issues are a serious problem that can ruin lives and therefore there is a need to prioritise and take responsibility for your and your family’s care. Our fee structure is very reasonable and we offer concessionary rates for those in financial difficulty (without means-testing). Please contact us to see how we can help you.
- £150 for a four hour intense Anger Management or Domestic Violence course
- £220 for a six hour intense Anger Management or Domestic Violence course
- Both courses are held on Fridays or if you need, on Saturdays in which case the fees are £225 and £330 respectively
- Fees for courses are payable in advance and non-refundable (however may be transferable)
- All intense courses are to be followed by weekly sessions, please see our counseling fees.
- No other discounts or concessions are available
- *** If required, at the completion of your intense Anger Management or Domestic Violence course and after a minimum of six weekly session we will be able to write an assessment for either family or criminal court (all letters and assessments are chargeable) ***
The purpose of an intense Anger Management or Domestic Violence course day is to act with immediacy in what is often a volatile situation. These days are designed to help the individual improve their current situation through a psycho-educational intervention that improves empathy and understanding, communication and relational skills, and self-awareness and encourages responsibility for actions and reparations. We consider these courses as relational triage which must be followed by ongoing Anger Management and counselling or psychotherapy to create a long term and sustainable change in the individual.
This service can be integrated into Therapy, (Counselling and Psychotherapy) or offered as a fixed term contract. As such, its fee structure is the same as Therapy and is available at all our venues. Please see Bedford, Northampton or Milton Keynes Counselling Service Fees above.
For more information on Anger Management fees please visit our fees and conditions Fees and Conditions page.
This section contains pages pertaining to each of our therapists. We hope that this will allow you to get to know our therapists a little better and help you choose who you would like to work with.

We are a privately funded Psychotherapy and Counselling practice and therefore work directly for our clients and in their best interest. Client confidentially is assured through the following procedures:
- Since computers are vulnerable to attack and data theft; no personal client information or Counselling / Psychotherapy session notes are kept on computer.
- Client session notes and personal information are only kept as hard copy and securely locked away. Access to these paper records is restricted to the Therapist and Client unless directed by a court order or under other legal obligation.
- To ensure privacy and confidentiality, TonicTalk and its agents will not share any information concerning Counselling, Psychotherapy or other services accessed by a clients with any other agency unless specifically directed to do so by court order.
- The health services keep complete and lifelong medical records of all medical interventions including those reported by other agencies. Many, both within and without the health services have access to medical records and as such they should not be considered confidential. Often, insurers and employers demand access to medical records such that their content may prejudice both the availability and cost of insurance or be detrimental to employment prospects. In our opinion, it is therefore, not in the best interest of clients to inform G.P.s of services accessed.
For many people making the decision to take up Counselling or Psychotherapy is difficult. They often feel that their issues and concerns are not important enough to warrant attention for fear of being seen as a ‘malingerer’, ‘time waster’ or fraud when there are people who ‘really’ need help out there. Others feel that their issues and concerns are so insurmountable and overwhelming that they are impossible to resolve. And if they expressed how they feel; that they would lose themselves or never stop crying; or that a Therapist would not be able to ‘cope’ or be unwilling to help. Others feel that no one could begin to understand how they feel or be able to help, so what is the point trying to explain it? And others feel that their ’secret’ is so terrible or damning that they would be judged and rejected if anyone knew.
Small or large; any issue or concern that is having a detrimental effect on your life or the life of your family or your personal wellbeing is worth investing in to resolve. Anything that ‘pulls you down’, depresses you, causes you stress, anxiety or fear or to devalue yourself is something Therapy can help you to overcome.
Counselling and Psychotherapy, when practiced by a properly trained, qualified and developed Therapist, offers a unique opportunity to engage with how you feel and think and with your past and present experiences, within a safe, supportive, non-judging, nurturing and healthy environment. It is a positive opportunity to work perhaps on the most difficult elements of your life and in so doing grow beyond them and be renewed.
Everything that you currently Feel, Think and have Experienced is completely ‘real’ and undeniable; but, while it may do, it does not have to be the limit of your life and potential happiness. You can grow beyond Fear, Shame, Depression, Anxiety, Despair, Loneliness, Unhappiness, Worthlessness, Aggression and anything else that plagues your life and robs you of your Dignity, Value, Resilience, Spontaneity, Confidence, Tolerance, Appreciation, Peace and Joy. Life has infinite possibilities and in general, is what we make it. Through Therapy you can realise your potential and become all that you able to be.
While many may feel that Therapy is for weak, and perhaps ‘mental’ or ‘crazy’ people; it is not. Therapy is for everyone and anyone who wants to move beyond their issues, worries and concerns or overcome personal psychological problems that degrade their lives. Through the assistance Therapy offers, you can achieve joy, and a better connection and understanding with yourself and those in your life; you can become more tolerant and peaceful; and you can achieve a sense of self appreciation that will reflect in everything you do. Happiness is achieved when what you think, feel and do are in harmony with each other and your social and personal context; and Therapy can help you achieve this.
There is no need to ‘suffer in silence’ or ‘put up with’ things as they are. We are here to help you.
All our Therapists are experienced, skilled, qualified, reputable and professional practitioners who are able to provide help and therapy in the vast majority of cases. They are ordinary people who have worked and studied hard for years to acquire skills, insights, and personal qualities and achieve personal development that enables them to work effectively with clients.

This article has been randomly selected from a group of Counselling and Psychotherapy articles which attempt to provide information concerning the Therapeutic process and how it can help with respect to specific issues and concerns. The list is not exhaustive and we will continue to add to it when the opportunity arises.
As of 2008 45% of all marriages in England and Wales will end in divorce. This equates to anything from 120,000 to 150,000 married couples filing for divorce per year and this will affect anything from 100,000 to 160,000 children per year. These statistics were taken form www.statistics.gov.uk
Note: These statistics do not include unmarried couples and their children.
The social and personal impact of divorce and separation is immense and affects both the adults and children in the immediate family and also their extended families and friends. Children, especially young children, are particularly susceptible to the negative effects of familial breakdown and more often than not get caught in the crossfire between ‘warring’ parents. Children loose their sense of security, family and continuity, blame themselves, are confused, and often regress to earlier developmental stages. The adults in failing or failed relationships are also fare from immune to emotional and psychological ‘fall out’. There is often a loss or bereavement period; Depression concerning the lost investment; Anxiety concerning the future ; a loss of self worth; guilt, regret, anger, resentment, denial, blame; a sense of betrayal or abandonment, a loss of faith in oneself; and much more besides. Also our legal system is adversarial, encouraging blame between the parties which is less than helpful.
Counselling and Psychotherapy has a role to play under these circumstances and can be of great help to all parties concerned.
- In relationships where there is a possibility of salvaging the relationship Therapy can:
- Help both parties learn to better communicate their individual needs
- Create better understanding and reduce stress
- Overcome aggressive tendencies
- Create appropriate boundaries for children allowing for ‘Adult time’
- Improve communication and reduce stress within the family as a whole
- Offer children and Adolescents an outlet to express their fears, concerns and emotions and thus lessen the impact of divorce and the likelihood of self blaming and insecurity
- In irreconcilable relationships or during and after divorce, Therapy can:
- Reduce tension between parties and offer a route to a more amicable split thus reducing legal costs and help prevent children from being caught in the ‘crossfire’
- Create ‘working’ relationships between estranged parties to facilitate cordial child access rights in which children can feel secure with both their parents
- Offer children and Adolescents an outlet to express their fears, concerns and emotions and thus lessen the impact of divorce and the likelihood of self blaming and insecurity
- Offer emotional release to adults to reduce stress, and frustration.
